Kristana Arp is an internationally recognized authority on the feminist icon Simone de Beauvoir.

Critics have praised her award-winning book on Beauvoir for its originality and accessible writing style. In graduate school she lived in Germany for a year studying German philosophy. She also explored the nooks and crannies of Paris, searching out places where Simone de Beauvoir lived, worked and drank. Along the way she learned to speak French and German almost fluently.

Hired to teach at a small college in Brooklyn, she eventually rose to the rank of full professor. But her heart remained in California where she was born. On her return she was lured to Mendocino County by its wild natural setting. The majestic redwood trees there still hold her under their spell and figure prominently in her fiction.

She has completed three novel manuscripts since leaving academia. An active member of the Northern California literary community, she recently attended the Writers Workshop at Squaw Valley. She is also a member of Women’s Fiction Writers of America, Redwood Writers and the Black Oak Writing Group.
